Dudley High School – “Road To Houston”
We need your support in keeping this project going. Please make donations to the AVT Club. Contact Mr. Ricky Lewis
My students and I would like to thank you for taking an interest in the work we are doing with the Advanced Vehicle Technology (AVT) Club. The kids in the AVT club have been working late many evenings to prepare the vehicles for the Shell Eco Marathon in Houston, TX on April 4. I have included a link to the short video prepared by Shell. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCtiLYQt2JE ; We have competed in the last two Eco Marathons, and we are hopeful that we will make it again this year. With your involvement in education, I am sure you are aware of the focus on STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) subjects for today’s students. This project provides the students with a hands-on opportunity to explore these subjects. Plus, the exposure to the many universities and colleges that compete from across the Americas helps my students believe in themselves and their futures.
Shell Eco-marathon challenges student teams from around the world to design, build and test ultra energy-efficient vehicles. With annual events first in the Americas, then Europe and Asia, the winners are the teams that go the furthest using the least amount of energy. The events spark debate about the future of mobility and inspire young engineers to push the boundaries of fuel efficiency.
I have attached several pictures of our cars and students. The kids are working hard to get the cars ready, but as I mentioned we are still not sure if we will make it to the event. We have raised over $3000, but we are still in need of $
3,000 more. We would greatly appreciate any thing you can do to help us meet our financial goal. I would recommend visiting the Shell Eco Marathon if the opportunity ever presents itself to you.
Again, thank you for your time and support.
